Counselling and psychotherapy is a confidential one to one relationship between you (the client) and the therapist. It aims to create awareness of feelings and patterns of behaviour through gaining information and self-awareness.
At the same time or separately you can join a self-development / psychotherapy group which meets on a monthly basis. This enables you to work alongside other people who explore particular feelings, behaviours or themes.
Therapy will help unlock within you creativity, energy and potential as well as help you let go of difficulties in the past and/or present that get in the way of finding happiness.
You could come for a variety of reasons, such as:
| • feeling confused and unhappy • relationship difficulties • anxiety • lonley, insecure and lacking confidence • loss and bereavement • sexuality issues • history of mental illness • anger management |
• personality disorders • post traumatic stress • mental ill-health diagnosis (e.g. bipolar disorder, ADHD, psychosis) • psychosomatic symptoms • obsessions • abuse • domestic violence |
I am an accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and registered with the UK Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I work to the Code of Ethics of the BACP.
I use a variety of processes and follow a humanistic and existential approach, including:
• Increasing awareness of:
- Cognitive thought and beliefs
- Bodily perceptions
- Emotional expression
- Behaviours
• Holistic and integrative
• Psychodynamic and art therapy
• Creative experimentation
For example, for short therapy I may use a solution focused approach to help resolve current problems and where clients require a more fundamental understanding of their issues and behaviour I might use a psychodynamic approach. Longer term therapy involves my clients speaking about what they want without censorship, be it about the past, the present or the future in order to gain awareness and with that new understanding bring about change or find acceptance.
What clients want from their lives often changes as they get beyond anxiety or depression and begin to see themselves in a different – truer to self – light.
